It’s not been that long since France and Australia last faced each other – in the 2008 AFC Cup. Their last World Cup match was four years ago when the French beat the Aussies 1-0.
France vs Australia World Cup match prediction
In 2014 France knocked Australia out of the World Cup with a 2-1 win and France, albeit with a heavily diminished team, beat Australia 3-1 in the opening match of the last World Cup. Les Bleus are unlikely to have as much quality in this game as they had four years ago, when they were top of the group. The 2014 World Cup started poorly for France and, perhaps more importantly, it has started poorly for Didier Deschamps’ France.
France beat Australia 2-1 at the Kazan Arena in 2014, courtesy of goals from Blaise Matuidi and Olivier Giroud, but since then France have not beaten Australia at any competition. Les Bleus have won just once in their last five matches. Australia had their own awful tournament four years ago but they have improved since then, ending a run of five successive defeats against France at the World Cup.
FIFA World Cup 2018 predictions:
France (vs Peru, vs Denmark, vs Australia) France, for some reason, do not seem to have an answer to the problem of scoring goals and will rely heavily on an extremely talented midfield. France vs Peru could prove to be an early preview of the World Cup final.
Australia (vs France, vs Denmark, vs Peru)
France look much better and more complete than Australia at this moment, which is a problem. Can France keep winning? They have been quite brilliant in France’s matches in this World Cup, and France should just be too good for Australia. At this moment, this seems like a likely draw. Even though Australia will likely go into this game believing they can win, it’s probably quite unlikely that they will actually do so.
If France are able to knock out Australia in their own half, they are likely to pick up the points and top the group. If they can do so, they will be in with a chance to win the World Cup in 2022. In terms of who they should face in the next round, Australia are probably a little better than Peru and a little worse than Denmark. Peru are likely to finish second in Group C with France second. It’s going to be very difficult for Australia to beat any of those three teams, however, so it’s probable that they will end up in the bottom half of Group
